Newry move top of league

Newry City moved to the top of the Carnegie Premier League on goal difference by beating Limavady United.

Emmett Friars scored Newry's opener from close range on 14 minutes but Matthew Boyd swept in the equaliser from a few yards out after 56 minutes.

Substitute Sean Friars put the visitors ahead again with a low right-foot shot inside the post twenty minutes later.

Stephen Garrett made it 3-1 with a neat finish from Sean Friars' left-wing cross in the dying seconds.

The ball fell invitingly to Emmett Friars to score Newry's opener after a shot had been blocked and Boyd squandered a chance to equalise by firing over the bar soon after.

Paddy McLaughlin had a header well saved by Glenn Miller while Limavady's best chance of the first half fell to Ryan McIlmoyle but Robert Robinson in the Newry goal was equal to the task.

Boyd netted Limavady's first league goal in four matches after the break but Sean Friars shot home at the other end and then Kevin Keegan was denied by Miller.

Garrett, on loan from Linfield, made the points safe in the final minute.
