A homeless man with more than 150 criminal convictions has appeared in court charged with stealing money and a mobile phone. Belfast Magistrates Court heard that police officers out on the beat in the city centre witnessed 35-year-old John Goddard robbing another homeless man.
It was also alleged that Mr Goddard bit the arresting officer's thumb leaving two deep lacerations.
An officer told the court he could connect the accused to the charges.
He also revealed that in the last 18 years, Mr Goddard had amassed 164 convictions for crimes including intimidation, theft, burglary and serious assault.
The magistrate said he was taking particular note of his convictions for intimidation and remanded him in custody until 30 November.
