Bull shot dead by police

Police marksmen shot dead a bull which ran amok on one of the busiest roads in Devon on Sunday afternoon.

At one point the enraged animal chased an officer as he tried to marshal it away from the A30 through Okehampton which was shut in both directions.

Police said the bull was causing a real danger to motorists and the road was closed for an hour.

Two police marksmen shot the creature at 1330 GMT after a vet failed to get close enough to sedate it.

Earlier this week, the M5 in Exeter was closed during rush hour while the emergency services caught escaped cattle.
