Barbed wire used in guard assault

A security guard has been found wrapped in barbed wire and with flammable liquid poured over him at a Greater Manchester hospital.

Police officers were called to Trafford General Hospital following reports that a security guard had been found collapsed at about 0030 GMT on Tuesday.

The guard had been on his nightly patrols when he was struck with what is believed to be a hammer from behind.

His attacker then poured the liquid on him and threatened to set him on fire.

The victim is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries, which are not life-threatening, and has been left badly shaken.

Police said inquiries were at an early stage.
